An Evening in Swaziland~{The Luke Commission}

Saturday night, John, Abby and I had the privilege of attending “A Night in Swaziland”.  This was a fund raising event for The Luke Commission.  The Luke Commission was started by a husband and wife team, Dr. Harry and Echo VanderWal, who we attended church with several years ago.  Even then they had a heart for missions.  They have since added four sons {8 year old triplets and a five year old} to their team.  For most of the year they live in Swaziland, southern Africa and serve the Lord by ministering to the medical and spiritual needs of the people there. Since going there for the first time in 2004, they have completed six medical mission trips to Swaziland. Here is a quote directly from their website describing some of the work they do…

“The Luke Commission is a Christian medical mission serving remote regions in southern Africa. We take our mobile medical clinic to rural villages, schools, churches, chief’s kraals, and orphan care points and offer free medical care, medications, HIV testing and counseling, vision care, eyeglasses, Bibles and the Hope of the Gospel. Current efforts are concentrated in the bush of Swaziland, a tiny country with the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world.”

During the evening we heard stories from the field about their amazing ministry, and listened to live African music during dinner.  A silent and live auction were conducted to help raise funds to support their ministery.  The VanderWal’s four sons sang some traditional African songs for us as well as quoted Hebrews 11:1-6 {which was quite impressive coming from 8 year olds as well as their 5 year old.}

To find out more about their wonderful ministry and possibly contribute financially, you can visit their website to see and hear  more.  Above all else, please keep their ministry in your prayers as they continue to carry God’s Word and love to the African people.
